2019 Undergraduate Programs of Academy of Arts & Design (Admission for International Applicants)

The Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, formerly known as the Central Academy of Arts & Design, was established in 1956 and merged with Tsinghua University in 1999. The Academy has a long and distinguished history, a comprehensive set of disciplines, well-resourced teaching, research and experimental facilities and enjoys an excellent reputation both at home and abroad. In the fourth round of academic evaluation by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2017, its department of Design was rated as A+ and Fine Art and Art Theory were both rated as A-.  In addition, its Design discipline was included as one of the “first rate disciplines” in the Chinese Ministry of Education’s prestigious “Double First-rate” list. In 2018, the Academy ranked 23rd in the QS World University rankings for Arts and Design.

 

At present there are 10 departments and a Basic Teaching & Research Group covering 25 undergraduate programs. The Academy has the authority to confer doctoral degrees in the three arts disciplines of "Design", "Fine Arts" and "Art Theory". The faculty is highly qualified and includes a large number of influential artists, designers and scholars who are active leaders in their fields both in China and internationally.

 

The Academy has established friendly exchange relationships with 62 well-known universities in the United States, Britain, France, Australia, Japan and other countries, and dozens of international and domestic experts and famous scholars are invited to China to teach courses every year.

 

The Tsinghua Arts and Design Institute in Milan (ADIM) was officially founded on April 17th, 2018. It serves as an important hub in Europe for the art and design departments of Tsinghua University to cultivate international talent. By integrating global educational resources, ADIM will provide students with interdisciplinary, cross-regional and cross-cultural learning, researching and internship opportunities. ADIM’s excellent learning facilities will provide an environment to nurture innovative talent and help them develop the skills necessary to face the challenges of globalization.

2. Application Deadlines

First Round Application

Design and Fine Arts are open ONLY in the first round.

Online application (Beijing Time):

8:00 AM August 27—5:00 PM October 12, 2018

 

Second Round Application

Online application (Beijing Time):

8:00 AM October 13—5:00 PM November 30, 2018

 

Third Round Application

Online application (Beijing Time):

8:00 AM December 1, 2018—5:00 PM January 5, 2019

 

NOTE:Online application (Beijing Time): Design and Fine Arts are open ONLY in the first round of application, Art History are open in all rounds of Application.

 

The result will be issued by late March 2019.

Applicants who apply for Design should choose one or two among 11 programs and give clear indication that if you agree to be subject to professional   adjustment.
Applicants who apply for Fine Arts should choose one or two among 5 programs, and give clear indication that if you agree to be subject to   professional adjustment.

Applicants who apply for Art History only can choose Art History.

 

4. Examination Schedule and Requirement

A) Examination: December 1, 2018

Applicants who have passed the Application Review will be admitted to the exam, with the passport of yourself. The time and place will be informed in advance.

C) Interview: December 2, 2018

Please take all original materials and the corresponding copies when interviewed, paper portfolio voluntarily (about 20 works on A4).

The time and place of the interview will be informed in advance.

 

5. Admission

A) Method of Admission:

The admission of International Students (undergraduate) at Tsinghua University is based on a comprehensive assessment of the applicants’ achievements, qualification materials and interview scores, etc.

Design & Fine Arts

Applicants who are above the minimum admission requirements will be given offers, subject to the restrictions on a country-by-country basis;

In principle, for any single country, the number of admissions offers must not exceed 15% of the total annual enrollment.

The total score is calculated as follows:

Qualifications and achievements in field of study  (out of 300 points) ÷3×70%+ interview score(out of 100 points)×30% (i.e. qualifications will account for 70%; interview for 30%)

Please refer to the enrollment standards of the Humanities and Social Science program of Tsinghua University


B) About admission to programs

For Design and Fine Arts applicants who meet the admission criteria, the offers to each program will be given according to the ranking of total score, if the total score is the same, the applicants who get higher subject score will be given offers. Applicants will be given offers according to the first choice, otherwise the second choice, or redeployed to other program in the same discipline if applicants accept. If applicants can not accept redeployment, offers will not be given.
